The United States Social Security Administration (SSA) is set to release the first round of payments to enable retirement, disability, and survivor benefits for eligible Americans on Wednesday, January 14.
The US SSA plans the distribution of payments based on an individual’s date of birth, and this week, the payments will be made to those born between the 1st and 10th of any month in a year.
Given the majority of 70 million beneficiaries of the payments nationwide, the administration has decided to release the funds in a staggered fashion, preventing the banking system from possible overload.
Who will receive the Social Security payments today?
Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive the Social Security payments on Wednesday. These include retired citizens (aged 62 or older), who have worked and paid Social Security taxes for 10 years and above, according to the official SSA website.
Those with disabilities, including blindness, possessing enough work history, as well as survivors (spouses, ex-spouses, children, dependent parents) of individuals who worked and paid Social Security taxes before their deaths, are eligible to avail the funds, the website stated.
In case you are survivor receiving benefits based on your family member’s work history, the date that would determine your payment is the birthday of the family member.
What if eligible individuals don’t receive the benefits today?
If an individual qualifies to receive the Social Security funds on Wednesday, but fails to receive them, the US government’s website suggests waiting for three additional working days before contacting the local offices.

The website urged beneficiaries to contact their respective banks or financial institutions in case of non-payment of the funds. It states: “They may be experiencing a delay in posting your payment. If you still need to report a late, missing, or stolen Social Security payment, call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or contact your local Social Security office. We will review the case and if the payment is due, we will replace it.”
Schedule for Social Security payments
Those born between the 11th and 20th of any month in the US will receive the Social Security payments on January 21st, while those who were born between the 21st and 31st of any month are eligible to receive the funds on January 28th, according to the official schedule released by SSA.
