Trump administration-led ICE launches immigration crackdown in Massachusetts | World News

US President Donald Trump-led administration has launched an operation in Massachusetts led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and deport illegal migrants, while quoting the Department of Homeland Security which said it was targeting “the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens living in the state,” New York Times reported.

The Homeland department and the US ICE are calling the operation Patriot 2.0, which is a modification of an earlier name given during a deportation surge in May that led to the arrest of 1,500 people in the state, reports stated.

In a statement on Saturday regarding Patriot 2.0, the Department of Homeland Security said, “If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, deport you, and you will never return.”

The New York Timesquoting people familiar with the matter, reported that immigration crackdown under Operation Patriot 2.0 would last for several weeks. NOW further reported that Patriot 2.0 has been launched to focus on immigrants who have been released from custody despite ICE agents picking them up from respective prisons.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many immigration agents or officers were involved in the crackdown in Massachusetts, as it comes ahead of an imminent deployment of National Guards troops and immigration officers in Chicago by the Trump administration.

The Homeland department on Saturday called out Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston, who has spoken openly against the federal government’s scale of immigration actions since Trump took over the presidency for the second time in January.

“Sanctuary policies like those pushed by Mayor Wu not only attract and harbor criminals but also place these public safety threats above the interests of law-abiding American citizens,” the Homeland department said in a statement, NOW reported.

Trump’s border czar Tom Homan had indicated earlier this week to expect a ramped up enforcement in multiple sanctuary cities.
