A 19-year-old from Kerala died after falling from the terrace of a building in Dubai’s Deira area on November 7, local media in the UAE reported. The teen, Mohammed Mishal from Kozhikode district, had been in the city for about 15 days to visit his cousins, Gulf News said.

Mishal, described as a photography enthusiast, had reportedly gone to the terrace of a multi-storey building to take pictures of flights when the accident occurred. “He was staying with his cousins here while his parents remained in Kozhikode. He had been in Dubai for about 15 days,” family friend Haneefa K K told Gulf News.

Haneefa said Mishal was passionate about photography and had likely been trying to capture a close-up shot because the airport was nearby. “His leg got stuck between two pipes and he lost balance, falling to the ground.”

After the fall, Mishal was taken to Rashid Hospital, but he could not be saved, Khaleej Times reported, quoting social worker M K. “He had several internal injuries,” MK said, adding that Mishal was alive on the way to the hospital but died soon after reaching there.

Mishal was the only son of his parents and is survived by them and two sisters. He had been pursuing a diploma in civil engineering at a college in Kozhikode.

“It’s a tragic loss. We are completing the legal formalities and hope to repatriate his body soon,” Haneefa told Gulf News.

Khaleej Times also reported that this is the second case this year of a teenager dying after a fall in the UAE. In April, Alex Binoy, a 17-year-old student awaiting his Grade 12 results, died after falling from the third-floor apartment of his residential building in Abu Dhabi.
