Hindi film actors often embrace ‘method acting’ when the method involves something that’s quite doable, like actually drinking before filming an intoxicated scene. Actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal have done it in the past for films like Devdas, 3 Idiots and DINKI respectively, and recently, Varun Dhawan shared that he too, did the same for Jug Jugg Jeeyo.
Varun was asked about the ‘wackiest moment’ on a film set in a recent interview, and the actor spoke about shooting a particular scene with Maniesh Paul during 2022’s Jug Jugg Jeeyo. He recalled that while filming the final showdown with Anil Kapoor, a scene in which his character had to deliver a drunken speech, he began drinking with Maniesh at 7:30 am to get into character.
“During that climax scene with Anil sir, when they are renewing their vows, I get drunk and I give a speech. So we were supposed to be drunk. We started at 7:30 am. So Maniesh and I started drinking in the morning, and by 2 pm, we were slurring,” he shared with Pinkvilla. Varun said that he had to then sober up, but since they did not finish the scene, he had to do the same process the next day as well. “And the next day, the shoot continued, so we had to drink again.”

Varun Dhawan hasn’t had a hit since 2017’s Judwaa 2. He was last seen in 2024’s Baby John, which tanked at the box office. Made on a reported budget of over Rs 150 crore, the film was able to earn only Rs 40 crore in India. He will next be seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
