Months after his viral video, Babil Khan opens up about battling depression: ‘My soul was tired of repression’ | Bollywood News

In May, actor Babil Khan made headlines after a video of him went viral on social media. In the clip, an emotional Babil was seen calling the film industry “fake” and even naming a few of his peers. Following the controversy, he deleted his social media accounts, but later reactivated them. He also reportedly left a project to take some time off. After being recently spotted at the airport, Babil on Saturday shared an emotional note on Instagram, opening up about his battle with depression.

Sharing a photo of him wearing a blood-red t-shirt, Babil wrote in the caption, “Didn’t mean to eavesdrop, this glass house has lean walls. I wore my heart on my sleeve; now I have blood-soaked t-shirts. I needed time to heal. My demons left me with deep cuts, insomnia, and panic had me making wired confessions, I was crying out for help, I couldn’t stifle my expression. The toll was heavy on my health, my soul was tired of repression, “you were fighting with your girl while I was fighting my depression…wait..”

Back in May, after Babil’s viral video sparked backlash, his family issued a statement clarifying that he had been going through a few difficult days and that the video was widely misinterpreted and taken out of context. The statement further explained that Babil’s mention of his peers stemmed from genuine admiration and a desire to acknowledge their contributions to the industry.

The statement read: “Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days — and this was one of them. We want to reassure all his well-wishers that he is safe and will be feeling better soon. That said, a video of Babil has been widely misinterpreted and taken out of context. In the clip, Babil was sincerely acknowledging a few of his peers whom he believes are making meaningful contributions to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. His mention of artists like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, Arjun Kapoor, and Arijit Singh came from a place of genuine admiration — for their authenticity, passion, and efforts to restore credibility and heart in the industry. We respectfully urge media publications and the public to consider the full context of his words rather than drawing conclusions from fragmented video clips.”
