Lokah Chapter 1: Priyanka Chopra praises ‘India’s first female superhero’ film; Dulquer Salmaan is ecstatic | Bollywood News

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has been making a lot of noise ever since its release on August 28. Despite a relatively lean promotional strategy, the film went on to become a sleeper hit with positive word-of-mouth. Lokah has collected Rs 52 crore in eight days of release. While the film was originally released in Malayalam and Telugu with limited shows in Tamil, it is now also available in the Hindi language. Lokah has now gained the support of none other than Priyanka Chopra.

She took to her Instagram Stories to praise Lokah, and described it as ‘India’s first female superhero film’. Sharing a poster of the film, Priyanka wrote: “India’s first female superhero is here. Congratulations Dulquer Salmaan and the entire team of Lokah. This story has been already been winning hearts in Malayalam, and now, it’s out in Hindi too. P.S. added it to my watchlist already! Have you?”

Previously, actor Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram account to praise the film. She wrote: “Such a fresh blend of mythic folkore and mystery! So happy to see the love it’s getting. This is a step in cinema that I will always be eager to show my love and support for!”

Starring the daughter of filmmaker Priyadarshan, Kalyani, Lokah was originally released with just 647 shows across India. Eventually, with positive word-of-mouth, the shows have been increased to 1382 in the Malayalam language alone, and over 597 in the Telugu language.

The film was also made available in the Hindi language, and received about 92 shows across India. Apart from Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film also stars Sandy, Arun Kurian and Premalu star Naslen.

Lokah has become the third-highest-earning Malayalam film of 2025 after Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan and Mohanlal’s Thudaram. The film also received criticism from certain sections of the audience that objected to a line of dialogue perceived as demeaning towards women, especially those from Karnataka. It was also criticised for allegedly showing Hindus in a bad light. The objectionable dialogue was removed after Dulquer Salmaan’s production house Wayfarer Film apologised to the people of Karnataka.
