Film earns 2% of Jolly LLB 3’s opening day earnings

Nishaanchi box office collection day 1: Anurag Kashyap’s Nishaanchi released against Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited Jolly LLB 3, and it seems like the former has been severely affected by this clash. The film, despite opening to positive review from critics, earned just Rs 25 lakh on its release day. This is just 2 percent of Jolly LLB 3’s collection, which earned Rs 12.5 crore at the box office. Nishaanchi, made with relatively newer actors, was given about 807 shows across India with 158 shows in Mumbai and 192 shows in the Delhi-NCR. Meanwhile, Jolly LLB 3 had over 4000 shows across India.

The Anurag Kashyap directorial witnessed an overall occupancy of 7.18%. Though the film opened at just Rs 25 lakh, it is still better than Anurag’s 2023 film Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat, whose lifetime collection was just Rs 25 lakh. If Nishaanchi will not pick pace in the weekend, it will turn out to be Anurag’s third flop in a row after Taapsee Paanu’s Dobaaraa and Alaya F’s Almost Pyaar.

Produced by JAR Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Flip Films, Nishaanchi stars Aaishvary Thackeray and Monika Panwar in the lead roles. Apart from the newcomers, the film also stars actors Kumud Mishra, Vineet Kumar Singh and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, among others.

Nishaanchi revolves around twin brothers who are caught between crime and conscience, where love, loss and fate test the strength of their bond. Nishaanchi has been among Anurag’s passion project. However, it took him 9 years to make the film.

He told Zoom: “I wrote Nishaanchi in 2016. I waited so much because I wanted to find the right people to make it with. I did try to make it with a star, it didn’t work out. Then I waited and I talked to a few more people and I realised that everybody eventually actually wants to be a big hero, big star.”

He further added how after the success of Gangs of Wasseypur and Mukkabaaz, people have been wanting him to recreate the same magic with each film. “When folks say I am back, they are looking for the Anurag of Wasseypur or Mukkabaaz. But Ugly is also part of me, right? Black Friday is also part of me. There are many facets to my identity, and I refuse to let the perception of whether I am back or not define the rest of my career. I have never left; I mean, I have been actively making films.”
