As Baaghi 4 resorts to a ‘buy one, get one free’ offer, Sanjay Gupta slams ‘big star’ Tiger Shroff: ‘What times are we living in?’ | Bollywood News

Tiger Shroff’s latest action-packed offering, Baaghi 4, hit theatres today, with industry eyes keenly watching its performance. The actor, who has faced a series of box office setbacks in recent years, is hoping to bounce back with the latest installment of the franchise that last delivered him a hit with Baaghi 3 back in 2020 — just before the pandemic disrupted the industry.

Touted as a high-octane, violent actioner, Baaghi 4 comes with heavy expectations. However, even before the dust could settle on the film’s theatrical release, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, known for his own successful actioners, took a pointed dig at the film’s promotional strategy. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gupta wrote: “Big Budget. Big Producer. Big Star. First Friday. One Plus One Free. What times are we living in? Why even make films?”

His post was seen as a clear jab at producer Sajid Nadiadwala’s marketing approach, which includes a tie-up with a popular ticketing platform offering a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” deal (up to ₹150 off) on opening day tickets. The move is aimed at boosting footfalls. Several major releases in the recent past have resorted to similar offers to attract audiences amid increasing competition and dwindling theatre attendance.

Despite the discount, Baaghi 4 faces an uphill battle. Ticket prices at multiplexes remain high, and the film has been released alongside strong competition from multiple languages, including The Conjuring: Last Rites, The Bengal Files, and Lokah Chapter One – Chandra (Hindi). Speaking to Outlook, trade expert Akshaye Rathi predicted a modest Day 1 collection. “It has all the elements to appeal to that audience, and I really hope that it goes ballistic with it,” he said, estimating an opening in the range of Rs 8-9 crore.

While that would be a decent start for most films, it still falls short when compared to the Baaghi franchise’s earlier performance, particularly Baaghi 3, which had a stronger opening despite pandemic concerns looming at the time.
