There are a lot of films that don’t age well as time passes by, and then there are some which would be considered polarising in any day and age. Rajkumar Kohli’s film Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani falls into the latter category, and despite having a star-studded cast, the film often becomes a topic of intense discussion. In a recent interview, actor Arshad Warsi, who was a part of the film, reflected on the film and admitted that he does regret being a part of it.
While speaking to Raj Shamani, the actor was asked if there were any of his own projects he didn’t like. He admitted that he isn’t particularly proud of Jaani Dushman. However, he clarified that director Rajkumar was one of the nicest people he ever worked with and how it is very difficult to say no to a man like that.

“My movies are terrible; they usually offend everybody. I don’t want to say all these things, but I have done some films which I am not proud of. One very famous film that is in that list is a film called Jaani Dushman. Armaan Kohli’s father, Rajkumar Kohli, is one of the nicest people in the industry. When he called you for a film, most actors would say yes. Purely because of the kind of person he was,” said Warsi.
He added, “I was still new in the industry, so I wasn’t aware of his reputation. I just needed the money. Maria and I were building a house, but after buying it we had no money left to actually build something. We were collecting money from wherever we could. I mean, the terrace of my home could be constructed because of Jaani Dushman.”
He further appreciated the director and said that he would never trouble his actors with any schedule or money problems. He said, “I realised that he (Rajkumar) was a very nice man. He was very different from any of the other people in the industry. He never gave you any trouble regarding money, never. If he calls you and tells you a schedule, he will never waver from it. Your fees would reach you before you had to even ask for it. That is why almost everybody has done a film with him.”
He admitted that he requested for his character to be killed off first, but his co-star Akshay Kumar was in no hurry to finish his own part. “When he (Rajkumar) asked me to make it, I told him to kill me off first. He didn’t agree with me, and on the other hand, Akshay Kumar wasn’t ready to be killed off. He kept coming back and kept trying to fit himself into other characters.”
