Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s secretive wedding got ‘rained out’ at last minute, mandap had to be moved overnight: Wedding Filmer | Bollywood News

Vishal Punjabi, aka The Wedding Filmer, recalled working on Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s wedding. He said in a new interview that the event was highly secretive, and that he didn’t even know whose wedding he was going to shoot before arriving at the location in Italy. He described the wedding as intimate and relaxed, but recalled that the primary location was rained out at the last minute, leaving the wedding planners scrambling to set up a replacement.

In an interview on Adhunika Singh’s YouTube channel, Vishal was asked about handling acts of God, and he said, “Virat and Anushka’s wedding was rained out. They shifted the location at the last minute. Devika Narain (wedding planner) didn’t sleep all night. She spent the whole night shifting the mandap.” He said that Virat and Anushka hadn’t seen his work before meeting him for the first time, but that they trusted the wedding planner’s taste.

Asked if he knew whose wedding he was going to shoot, Vishal said, “Honestly, I didn’t. It was all kept under wraps. But you kind of figure out that it may be them, but you only know when you get there. We got there, and we were very pleasantly surprised. It’s not like they knew of me, or knew of my work. They were just inherently very nice, sweet people. I met them, and they smiled and said, ‘Please do what you do. We don’t know what you do, but we believe that if you’re here, you’ve done it right’. They trusted their planners, who trusted us. It was a very small wedding, and it felt like everyone was together. They were really nice to me, they were really kind to me. They gave me space. I felt a certain level of Sufiism at the wedding. There was a divine love for God’s spirituality and each other. And it felt divine.”

Previously, on Shivani Pau’s podcast, Vishal had spoken about how intimate Anushka and Virat’s wedding really was. “Fifty people in Como is doable. That’s what Virat Kohli did. Cricket is a religion in India, and he’s a god. He and Anushka got married in Tuscany. It was really beautiful. The closest family and friends, only 40 of them, including mum, dad, makeup artists and us… They smashed the wedding. It was the most beautiful wedding ever. No one troubled them. It was like someone had put a bubble around that place, and they could just be. They had the most magical wedding ever. As I was checking in, Barack Obama was checking out; it was a really cool and exclusive and beautiful property,” he said.

Vishal previously addressed why celebrities prefer keeping their weddings lowkey. He said on the All About Eve podcast, “Most of the film stars, they do this for a living. They get ready everyday with hair and makeup, wardrobe, surrounding them, fussing over them. So when you are getting married, you want to keep it chill, you want to keep it relaxed, you want to keep just the people you love.”
