Salman Khan and Shakti Kapoor once shared a cordial friendship and frequently appeared together on screen in films such as Judwaa, Chal Mere Bhai, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Hello Brother. However, their association reportedly soured in 2005 after a major controversy involving Shakti Kapoor. A sting operation at the time showed the actor allegedly asking for sexual favours from an undercover reporter posing as an aspiring actress in exchange for work in the film industry. Following the incident, Salman Khan and Shakti Kapoor stopped collaborating professionally.
Years later, in 2011, Shakti Kapoor entered Bigg Boss 5 as a contestant. The season was co-hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. During the show, Salman was reportedly seen ignoring Shakti Kapoor while warmly greeting other contestants. Matters escalated when Salman allegedly took a public dig at Shakti’s image, which eventually led to a bitter exchange. The situation turned uglier when Shakti Kapoor accused Salman Khan of being a “woman beater.”
Now, nearly 15 years after the fallout, Shakti Kapoor has claimed that things are amicable between the two.
Speaking on the podcast The Powerful Humans, Shakti Kapoor said, “Sab hello hello hai ache se,” adding, “We are in good terms now. I do not have any issues with anybody.”
During the same conversation, the veteran actor also spoke about his personal transformation and lifestyle changes. “It’s been five years since I have left alcohol. Now, the industry doesn’t have drunkards. Most of them are health freaks. They are all bodybuilders and social drinkers. Earlier, several stars used to come to sets completely drunk,” he said.
What went wrong between Salman Khan and Shakti Kapoor?
The tension between the two actors became evident during Bigg Boss 5 in 2011, when Salman Khan allegedly did not acknowledge Shakti Kapoor on the show, leaving him feeling insulted.
Speaking to The Times of India at the time, Shakti Kapoor said, “Salman Khan owes me an apology! Firstly, he and Sanjay Dutt didn’t greet me, whereas they had accorded this courtesy to all the inmates. Then Salman said, ‘Bigg Boss ko maanna padega! Shakti Kapoor jaise logon ko apne ghar bulaya, hum toh kabhi na bulayen!’ I would like to tell him that even if he invites me to his house, I may not want to go there. He made those scathing remarks without any provocation, so he has to say sorry!”

After his eviction from the show, Shakti Kapoor took to his official Twitter handle (now X) to publicly criticise Bigg Boss and Salman Khan. He wrote, “Even Salman could not save the biggest fraud called Bigg Boss. A person, who hits women, gets drunk and drives over people, hunts deers. Shame.”
He later told Rediff that he participated in the reality show to show his children that he could stay away from alcohol. “I was not there to win but to prove to my children that I can stay away from alcohol for a month. I am proud that I could prove that. Also, they were happy that there were no fights in the house when I was the captain. Now my daughter Shraddha says that she wants to be born as my daughter even in her next life,” he had said.
Salman Khan has never publicly addressed the reason behind his strained behaviour towards Shakti Kapoor. One user commented, “If Salman doesn’t like anybody, he’s straight up—he tells them. No talking behind the person. He’s raw in character.”

Salman Khan’s bond with Shraddha Kapoor
Despite his fallout with Shakti Kapoor, Salman Khan continues to share a warm relationship with Shakti’s daughter, Shraddha Kapoor, who often appears on his shows to promote her films.
Interestingly, Shraddha Kapoor had once revealed that Salman Khan had approached her for a film when she was just 15 or 16 years old. However, she turned down the offer to focus on her education.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, she said, “I felt that at the age of 15 or 16, I was too young and wanted to finish schooling and attend college. I don’t think getting offers back then has defined my success. But it was difficult to turn it down and focus on studies because it was such a fantastic opportunity to work with Salman Khan.”
