Rahul Gandhi makes ‘imarti’, ‘besan laddoo’ on Diwali. Shop owner wants to deliver sweets for his marriage | India News

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi joined Diwali celebrations in old Delhi by trying his hands at making “immarte you” and “besan laddu” at Ghantewala sweet shop. As the Congress leader extended Diwali wishes to people in the shop, they did not shy away from having a banter with him over his marriage and shared nostalgia over how they have been delivering sweets to his family, even to his grandparents, father and other family members as well.

In the video posted on social media, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha can be seen entering the shop and extending Diwali wishes and interacting with the people. He goes on to make immarte you and besan laddu with the guidance of the man who cooks at the shop. The shop owner cracks jokes saying if the items turn bad then they will say that they did not teach him.

Delivered sweets to generation of Gandhi family

The owner shows photos hanging on the wall to the MP and recollects how they used to deliver sweets to his grandmother, grandfather, and father Rajiv Gandhi. While adding that they had delivered sweets for his sister and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi’s wedding, the shop owner says they are now waiting to supply items for his marriage as well. The 55-year-old leader smiles in response and the duo go onto discuss how the profession of a sweet maker is less glamorous compared to a chef or pastry maker. They are called “Halloween“, the owner says and Gandhi opines that its not fair.

What Rahul Gandhi said

Gandhi posted the video on X and said the true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the ‘thali’, but also in relationships and community. “Tried my hand at making immarte you and besan laddu at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in old Delhi,” Gandhi said. “The sweetness of this centuries-old, iconic shop remains the same – pure, traditional, and heartwarming,” Gandhi added. “Tell us, how are you celebrating your Diwali and making it special?” he said.

In another post on X, Gandhi extended greetings to the people of the country on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. “May India be illuminated with the lamps of joy, may the light of happiness, prosperity, and love spread in every home,” the former Congress president said.
