‘CPI(M) has links with terrorists’: Tripura BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee | India News

Two days after the CPI(M) criticised the denial of bail to 10 accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case and the recent encounter of 27 Maoists in Chhattisgarh, BJP Tripura unit spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee Friday alleged that the communist party has links with terrorists.

“When the Maoist leaders killed several people, they (CPIM) didn’t protest against it. When a Maoist leader (Nambala Kesavarao) was killed, they protested. Ex-CM Manik Sarkar protested against it. The CPI(M) ruled here for several years. They have a connection with the terrorists, and it is known to all. These issues were discussed in and outside the Assembly. They always tried to create unrest in the state. They follow the ideology of terrorism, and they want to stay with terrorism,” Bhattacharjee said.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, the CPI(M) stated that the Delhi High Court’s decision to reject bail pleas of the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case accused, including former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, amounted to a “travesty of justice”, and negation of the principle that “grant of bail is the rule and refusal the exception”.

“The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) deplores the Delhi High Court’s denial of bail to Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and eight others. All of them have been under detention for over five years under the draconian UAPA for being linked to the alleged ‘conspiracy’ behind the February 2020 communal riots in Delhi. This is the fifth time that their bail application (has been) rejected in the last five years. It is all the more disturbing that even the charges against them have not been framed for the last five years,” reads the CPI(M) statement.

The statement also alleged that while the accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case were in jail for over five years without any conviction, BJP leaders like Kapil Mishra and Anurag Thakur, whose speeches allegedly fuelled the same Delhi communal riots, were roaming around scot-free.

“It is also a grave judicial contradiction that while the accused in the Malegaon bomb blasts, like Pragya Singh Thakur, Colonel Prasad Purohit, and others, were acquitted, Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others are made to rot in jails for over five years,” the statement further reads.
