The Tripura Police arrested a suspected Bangladeshi intruder in Durganagar under the Khowai district of Tripura on Sunday.
The person, identified as Mohammad Sagar Farazi, was a resident of Khulna in Bangladesh.
The police said Farazi first illegally entered West Bengal, and then came to Teliamura in Khowai district via Guwahati and Silchar in Assam.
“We found cash of Rs 7,300 from him. We are investigating the matter,” said a cop.
Meanwhile, unidentified persons, suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals, tried to break into houses and shops and steal livestock in Kailashahar under Tripura’s Unakoti district on Saturday night. The location of the spot was near the India-Bangladesh international border.
Last month, three Bangladeshi cattle smugglers died after they engaged in clashes with Indian villagers in an area close to the India-Bangladesh international border in Khowai district.
Tripura shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, much of which is covered with a barbed wire fence, except for a few patches that are still unfenced due to local disputes.
