OpenAI has been steadily integrating third-party services into ChatGPT. Just over a week ago, Adobe brought Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat to the popular AI chatbot. Now, the Sam Altman-led company has announced that the ChatGPT app directory is officially live.
According to OpenAI, “apps extend ChatGPT conversations by bringing in new context and letting users take actions like order groceries, turn an outline into a slide deck, or search for an apartment.”
Similar to Apple’s App Store or Google Play Store, ChatGPT’s app directory enables users to browse featured apps, search for a specific app, and install it with a single click. The new app store can be accessed by visiting chatgpt.com/apps on tChatGPThe web or by clicking the Apps button in the left sidebar on Android, iOS, and Windows.
However, instead of installing apps, users tap the Connect button and authorise the app to be used directly within ChatGPT. The app section is currently divided into three categories – Feature, Lifestyle and Productivity, and apps can be used in ChatGPT by simply mentioning them.

The ChatGPT maker also says that it is “experimenting with ways to surface relevant, helpful apps directly within conversations” using conversational context, learning app usage patterns and user preferences.
Many of the apps currently available on the app store include screenshots of prompt examples that may help users learn how to use the service within ChatGPT. For example, you can use the Canva app using the prompt “@canva create a 2025 wrap presentation for my class.”
OpenAI says that apps might also be able to use information from ChatGPT’s Memory feature (if enabled) and may use your information to train future AI models if the “improve the model for everyone” checkbox is enabled.

In a help document, the company also said that “connector” apps like Google Drive or Dropbox into ChatGPT will now be referred to as apps. This means chat connectors will now be termed as “apps with file search”, deep research connectors as “apps with deep research”, and synced connectors will be referred to as “apps with sync”.
