Punjab Local Body Election Result 2025 LIVE Updates: Counting of votes for the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections in Punjab began today amid tight security arrangements. Polls were held to elect members of 347 zones of 22 zila parishads and 2,838 zones of 153 panchayat samitis on December 14. A voter turnout of 48 per cent was recorded in the daylong polling, with over 9,000 candidates in the fray.
Candidates from major parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and BJP, contested on party symbols. Ahead of polling, Congress and SAD accused the ruling AAP of “blatant electoral malpractices,” alleging that the government machinery was used to block opposition candidates from filing nominations and even having some rejected.
