Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was arrested on Wednesday hours after he was fired from his duty, according to court records, AP reported. The court records further detailed that Moore was booked into Washtenaw County Jail at 8:30pm (local time).

However, the jail records skipped mentioning why Moore was arrested or whether any court appearances were scheduled. A USA Today report said that till 10:30pm (local time), no charges were listed and Moore remains in custody. A statement by Pittsfield Township Police Department said police were called to investigate an alleged assault in Pittsfield Township, however, it did not mention any name.

The alleged assault took place a couple of miles south of Michigan Stadium and the police took a person in custody, the statement added without mentioning anyone by name. Police added that there wasn’t any threat to public safety and it was not a random incident.

“Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details,” the statement said.

Michigan said that it fired Moore earlier as it found that the former football coach was involved in a relationship with a staffer which ended the two year tenure that saw the Wolverines take a step back on the field after winning the national championship and the NCAA punishing them.

According to athletic director Warde Manuel, “This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”

However, the announcement by Michigan did not mention the details of the alleged relationship of Moore. The former coach is married and has three young daughters. Moore had signed a five year contract last year with Michigan with an annual salary of $5.5 million, AP reported.
