UP judge, husband get into altercation with Goa restaurant staff over parking, police file 2 FIRs | India News

Goa Police registered two FIRs after a judge from Uttar Pradesh and her husband allegedly got into an altercation with staff at a popular eatery over parking.

According to the police, the incident took place on Friday evening at around 6.30 pm, when the Civil Judge (Senior Division) and her husband had gone to a restaurant near a beach in North Goa. In her complaint, the judicial officer alleged that security personnel at the restaurant abused and pushed her and her husband “with intent to outrage modesty” and “further threatened them with dire consequences”. The judge said in a complaint that the accused staff “thereafter pushed them out of the property/restaurant over the issue of parking”.

The FIR was lodged at 10.43 pm against restaurant staffers under sections 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage ger modesty), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) read with section 3 (5) (common intention) of the BNS.

The restaurant staff filed a cross-complaint and an FIR was registered against the judicial officer and her husband, alleging that the couple “abused” two staffers of the restaurant “with their common intention” and “wrongfully restrained them”. The FIR was registered under sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint) read with section 3 (5) (common intention) of the BNS.

Police said the altercation began with a dispute over the issue of “paid parking” space near the restaurant.

A police officer, requesting anonymity, said, “The couple could not find a proper space to park their car. This led to an argument between them and the restaurant’s security staff, with the couple alleging that no employee had been deputed for parking to guide patrons. The restaurant staff alleged that the judge’s husband then misbehaved with the staff near the restaurant’s counter area and threatened them. The couple alleged that the staff hurled abuses at them and pushed them out of the property. We have lodged cross FIRs and the investigation is in progress.”
