‘India is mostly on our side,’ says Zelenskyy after Trump’s ‘primary funders’ of Ukraine war remark | World News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed optimism about India’s stance on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. In an interview with Fox News, Zelenskyy affirmed that New Delhi was “mostly on our side”.

He underscored the importance of strengthening ties with India, while also acknowledging the challenges related to New Delhi’s energy ties with Moscow.

“I think India is mostly with us. We have these questions with energy, but I think President Trump can manage it. With the Europeans make closer and stronger relations with India,” Zelenskyy said.

He further noted that while there were problems concerning India’s energy deals with Russia, New Delhi would eventually change its attitude toward the Russian energy sector, highlighting that the countries “must do everything not to withdraw Indians”.

“With the Europeans make closer and stronger relations with India. I think we have to do everything not to withdraw India and they will change their attitude to Russian energy sector, I am sure,” the Ukrainian president said.

‘With China, it’s more difficult’

The Ukrainian leader further said that engaging China on the issue was “more difficult” due to Beijing’s historic alignment with Russian interests.

“With China, it’s more difficult because, for now, it’s not in their interest to stop supporting Russia,” Zelenskyy said.

He then said that US President Donald Trump can change his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping’s attitude towards the war as “we don’t feel that China wants to finish this war”.

Zelenskyy’s remarks came as a rebuttal to Trump’s criticism of India, as he attacked New Delhi and Beijing for being the “primary funders” of the Russia-Ukraine war.

“China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” Trump said during his address to the UN General Assembly.
