Motorola’s first notebook-style foldable ‘coming later this year’: Report | Technology News

Motorola’s first-ever notebook-style foldable could make its debut in 2026 as it looks to compete with rivals such as Samsung in the premium foldable smartphone segment.

While leaks and rumours about the new Motorola flagship foldable have been swirling around for months now, the latest details suggest that the device could be called ‘Razr Fold’, according to an image posted by tipster Evan Blass on X (formerly Twitter). The single slide shared by Bass appears to be from an internal marketing deck and reveals unverified details about the Razr Fold’s camera system and displays.

The Razr Fold “will offer brilliant displays, intelligent AI, and an advanced, boundary-breaking camera system, setting a new standard for what’s possible in a foldable device,” the teaser image reads. It also says that the device would be launching later this year, with more details to be shared in the “coming months”.

Motorola has been adding to its lineup of clamshell-style foldables since 2019. But the widely rumoured Razr Fold would mark the South Korean smartphone giant’s foray into the notebook-style foldable segment currently dominated by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Last week, Motorola officially released a teaser of a brand-new flagship smartphone that will be unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, United States. The mega tech expo is set to kick off tomorrow (January 6) and will run till January 9, 2026. “On January 6th, we’ll set a new bar for what a flagship device can be. Stay tuned as we enter into our new signature era at Lenovo Tech World 2026 in Las Vegas,” Sergio Buniac, the president of Motorola Mobility, said in a LinkedIn post.

Foldable phones are clearly on the rise with a Counterpoint Research report projecting that shipments of such devices could rise by 38 per cent in the new year, with book-style models expected to lead the pack.

Though details about Motorola’s Razr Fold are scant, we do know that the company will be launching its new Signature series on January 7. The upcoming premium smartphone comes with a fabric finish, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, and three 50-MP camera sensors.

While it won’t quite reach iPhone Air levels of svelteness, the Signature will still be plenty thin and light at just 6.99mm and 186g. According to tipsters, the smartphone is 6.99 mm thin and weighs 186 grams. It purportedly boasts a 6.8-inch “Extreme AMOLED” screen and packs a 5,200mAh battery with support for 90W TurboPower wired charging and 50W TurboPower wireless charging.
