We now need air purifiers in all shapes and sizes, depending on where we have to breathe fresh air at a certain point in time. Not all of us live in houses where a large air purifier has its own corner, so there is a significant demand for smaller devices. Dyson, which is known for its unique-looking air purifiers, now has a solution that caters to this segment and still has a design that will make anyone take a closer look. The Dyson HushJet won’t be out of place in a sci-fi movie, but it’s not here for its looks.
The Dyson HushJet looks a bit like a bullet that is standing up with a jet engine propeller on its top. There is a small LED up front for you to see the AQI level and other details. Set up is easy, as all you need to do is switch it on; there are no filters to be assembled or screws to be tightened. There are buttons to adjust the fan speed and also to select what you see on the display — PM 2.5, PM 10, and filter status. For more details, you can set up the app, which also lets you control the device remotely.
The device uses a 360-degree Electrostatic Filter that sucks in air from all sides. The charged filter media, the company claims, “captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns.(Image: The Indian Express/ Nandagopal Rajan)
The airpurifier is easy to operate… as easy as running it on auto mode. In this setting, the fan speed adjusts itself depending on the particulate matter in the room. Given that I stay in Noida, this usually started at a slow fan speed, and soon you would hear the fan running at full blast. This is because the PM2.5 levels were closer to 300 indoors, and it takes the Dyson HushJet a few seconds to realise this.
As I am writing this review, my living room, which has an open kitchen, is showing a PM2.5 of 305 and a PM10 of 290. The Dyson HushJet is running at full, and I can see the number drop every moment. In about 10 minutes, both these values were down by about 100 points each. In another 10 minutes, this came down to under 100. Getting to the green zone is not easy, considering the particulate matter in the room spikes every time you open the main door or even the doors to one of the rooms, without running an air purifier. But in a closed room, this air purifier can make the air clean in about 30 minutes.

The app lets you schedule the purifier to run at a specific time every day — maybe 30 minutes before you usually return home. This way, you can create a green corridor of sorts, moving from purified air zones in the office to your car, and then home. I feel awkward writing this sentence, but such are the times we live in.
The Dyson HushJet justifies its name when, once it has cleaned the room, it runs at a low setting where it is nearly silent. Even in sleep mode, it won’t bother you in any way. Another feature I liked is that you can set it up to work with voice commands using Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant.

At Rs 29,900, the Dyson HushJet is a compact, but very stylish, air purifier for any space, be it a living room or an office. It works silently to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 particles in your environment and is smart enough to work in a connected ecosystem.
