Editors’ choice: Top tech gadgets we love in 2025 | Technology News

2025 was a rather muted year for gadgets. Not because launches were few and far between, but because devices had become so predictable that they failed to excite consumers despite costing more. Even AI couldn’t live up to what was promised and what was eventually delivered. Clearly, there was a mismatch, and it was reflected in consumer purchasing behaviour as well. That said, there were a few exceptions. While far from perfect, some products did make an impact for the right reasons. From smartphones and tablets to headphones and smart glasses, here are some of our most-loved gadgets from the past year.

The iPhone 17 wasn’t the best iPhone Apple has ever launched, but it was good enough for most consumers, which is why it ranks high on our list of the best gadgets of 2025. It shows that the mainline iPhone is still going strong – and for the right reasons. With the powerful A19 chipset, a Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion (up to 120Hz), and an 18MP Centre Stage front camera, it is clearly the most recommended iPhone for most users. The base model shares far more in common with the Pro variants, making it a worthy contender in its own right. With improvements in battery life, performance, and cameras, the iPhone 17 is a sturdy device built to withstand the wear and tear of everyday use.

OnePlus Pad 3

The OnePlus Pad 3 was a revelation of sorts, something no one expected it to be. It’s the kind of device that blurs the line between tablets and laptops, and OnePlus successfully managed to pull it off. The Pad 3 not only nails the basics a tablet should offer such as a stunning, dynamic display, top-tier performance, excellent accessories, and strong ecosystem integrations but also gets the pricing right. For us, at least, the Pad 3, an Android tablet, emerged as a true competitor to the iPad Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 looks and feels like a normal phone, and that’s its biggest USP. Its dimensions and in-hand feel don’t make it seem like you’re using a foldable. Plus, it doubles as a tablet, so users don’t have to carry another device. It’s also shockingly thin for a foldable phone, though we wish it were a bit easier to open. That’s not to say the Z Fold 7 is perfect. It has its share of flaws. We wish it offered longer battery life, and the camera system could have been better. But then again, no phone is perfect. That said, there’s a lot of potential in foldable phones, and the category itself hasn’t reached a saturation point yet.

Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses

The Ray-Ban Display glasses may be at the stage where feature phones once were, but they give us hope that the smart glasses Meta wants to build could eventually arrive – and sooner rather than later. The Ray-Ban Display Glasses, as the name suggests, feature a small built-in heads-up display and responsive gesture controls.

We tried them, and they felt like the next chapter in tech, and potentially a successor to the smartphone someday. The glasses may look a bit thick and heavy, and they have some glaring flaws, including poor battery life, a lack of third-party app support, and a high price. Still, we praise Meta for a daring attempt at creating a pair of glasses that could eventually become useful, even if they are not quite ready for prime time yet.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL

The Pixel 10 Pro XL was the best Android smartphone of 2025 – and it took us by surprise. From its size and in-hand feel to the camera, display, and software including Google’s cutting-edge AI features, the high-end phone wowed us. The Pixel 10 Pro XL felt responsive, though when it comes to raw power, particularly for gaming, it falls short of rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That said, overall, Google’s premium Pixel remains the Android superphone to beat.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra

The Xiaomi 15 Ultraused with the Legend Photography Kit, is for those who take their photography really seriously and have to shoot both stills and video. This smartphone camera lets you create a distinct identity for your images with the many customisation on offer.

Nintendo Switch 2

The Switch 2 was in no way a surprise for many. What did surprise consumers, however, was how Nintendo managed to make an iterative update feel so good that the Switch 2 sometimes feels like an entirely new console. The big thing about the Switch 2 isn’t the obvious upgrades like more power or a bigger screen but the small details and subtle refinements.

These include a sleeker appearance, fun new features such as mouse controls and built-in video chat, and a strong lineup of games, both new and old. The core idea behind the original Nintendo Switch was versatility: play it at home on the TV or use it handheld on a plane. That philosophy carries forward to the Switch 2 as well. The big takeaway is that the Nintendo Switch 2 feels less like a radical reinvention of gaming and more like smartphone-style upgrade – and that’s okay. Sometimes, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Motorola Edge 60 Stylus

The Motorola Edge 60 Stylus is an incredibly well-designed Android smartphone. The main star of the show is the stylus and how seamlessly it works. Sure, this isn’t the first stylus-powered smartphone, but it’s rare to see one at this price point. It offers a smooth, simple experience, long battery life, and a big display on a budget – and yes, with a stylus. It’s hard to go wrong with the Motorola Edge 60 Stylus.

Nothing Headphone (1)

The Headphone (1) represents a daring attempt at over-ear headphones that remain utilitarian and, quite honestly, feel like a product one might pick up from a department store. However, Nothing’s first pair of headphones also carries a boutique appeal – more akin to an entry-level luxury watch – with meticulous detailing, the brand’s signature transparent design, and intuitive physical controls such as the paddle rocker. These headphones sound pretty good, though they aren’t the best on the market. They look cool and fashionable, evoking an era when the Sony Walkman was a cultural icon. They are comfortable to wear and, overall, deliver a satisfying audio experience.

iPhone Air

The iPhone Air is the MacBook Air equivalent in the iPhone lineup, a very powerful device that brings in style and convenience, and shaves off features that cater to those with unique requirements. As expected this has triggered more smartphone companies to launch ultra-thin devices and that could the iPhone Air contribution to the smartphone segment.

Instax Wide Evo

The Instax Wide Evo is a unique camera that can also work as a smartphone printer, and a creative tool all at the same time. A must-have for photography enthusiasts, this opens up new possibilities for them, once unimaginable for a instant camera.

SanDisk Creator SSD

Memory is one of the key defining factors of a smartphone. For creators who shoot video footage in high definition, running out of space is nothing less than a nightmare. Earlier this year, SanDisk introduced its Creator SSDa portable seamless device that has come to define creator workflows. The Creator Phone SSD helps users capture, store, and transfer high-quality content with ease. The device is a part of SanDisk’s Creator Series and is aimed at photographers, videographers, and digital artists who use their smartphones as their primary device. The handy SSD comes in a blue hue, is lightweight and attaches to the phone effortlessly via MagSafe. The front part is made of plastic, while the rest is coated with soft silicon that adds grip and prevents scratches on your phone. It also has a small lanyard loop, which adds a nice touch.

Sennheiser HDB 630

The Sennheiser HDB 630 is among the best audiophile-grade headphones we tested this year. It is versatile enough to understand the different needs of this segment and has all features tech-savvy users are looking for. But the price makes it one purely for audiophiles.

Samsung Galaxy S25

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is one of the most promising compact phones of the year. The smartphone packs the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, ensuring faster performance. It comes with a 120Hz AMOLED display, a dynamic 50MP triple-camera system, and a 4,000 mAh battery. The small, sleek aluminium frame feels premium. Even though there is no substantial design overhaul, one could feel the incremental refinements. One of the major highlights of the device is its expansive LTPO OLED display with 1080p resolution, as it delivers sharp, vibrant visuals. The S25 comes with some cool AI features that can make day-to-day life easier. It features the Now Bar, Now Brief, Gemini, an improved Circle to Search, AI Select, and a slew of generative AI features in Gallery.

JBL Tour One M3

The JBL Tour One M3 might appear pricey, but no other headphones offer you so many features. While great audio is a given with JBL, the boatload of unique features available in the charging case of this device makes the smartphone an appendage.

Google Android XR glasses

Google’s Android XR Glasses makes you feel the real power of having an AI assistant like Gemini to help you with everyday functioning. But what makes it even more powerful would be the power to remember everything the camera saw and not just what registered in your brain.

OnePlus 15

How much faster can a smartphone get? The OnePlus 15launched towards the end of 2025, is one of the highest-performing Android smartphones of the year. Along with a stunning design, the OnePlus 15 builds on its Power Trinity, a combination of a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a dedicated touch response chip, and another dedicated WiFi chip. It features an extensive set of IP ratings, namely, IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, making it one of the most durable OnePlus phones.

The major highlight of the OnePlus 15 is its massive 7,300 mAh dual-cell battery. Another key facet is the new OxygenOS 16 that endows finer aesthetics to the overall UI experience. The flagship device is being offered in Sand Storm, Infinite Black and Ultra Violet shades, each of which has been distinctly made with different material treatments and textures.

Xscace Bonsai

The Xscace Bonsai delivers high-fidelity audio that’s heard, not seen. These tiny speakers, not much larger than a 5-star bar, could signal the future of home entertainment and interestingly it comes from an Indian company.

Sony WH-1000XM6

Sony’s flagship WH-1000XM6 didn’t introduce a new design language – and honestly, they didn’t need to. Sony stuck with what was already one of the best ANC headphones on the market and reworked almost every aspect: better tuning, improved noise cancellation, longer battery life, and a more comfortable fit.
